Studies for Pressed

Pressed, drawing on paper and collage, 2012.

My short series of self-portraits explore femininity and female sexuality. Each work was done from life, using mirrors; a process of reflection. The flowers symbolise female sexuality and gender construction. The way I interact with each bloom reflects my changing attitudes and responses to my own sexuality and femininity. The allusion in the title to the tradition of preserving flowers by pressing them plays on the way femininity is formed and conservatively preserved through tradition.
